It was user error.

I just had to click a thing … I had the wrong thing…clicked- I should’ve…ah, it doesn’t matter.

I was wrong. Like Garth, I fear change.

I’m not alone. Lately, I’ve found people posting things on Facebook in indignation, incredulous about the crimes perpetrated by groups and individuals. These posters can’t believe people would be capable of such things. Sometimes these crimes are petty annoyances, while others are absolutely apocalyptic. Sometimes they’re almost all true, other times they’re half true, but a lot of the time, they’re just completely untrue. But usually always political.

It’s often very easy to find a little more information and context before posting something. It would seem that in some cases we are no better than the press in rushing to get some sliver of news out there. Of course, the random individual’s job isn’t to report the facts. And this probably goes without saying, but one shouldn’t go to Facebook for their information – whether it’s news or what Sally had for lunch.

Newton Minow called TV a “vast wasteland”. And fittingly, this is often taken slightly out of context. He also said “when television is good…nothing is better.” And while ultimately his treatise was indeed a condemnation of TV at large, it was also a call to simply use our heads.

Perhaps we shouldn’t fear change as much as just examine it a little more carefully before jumping to conclusions. Along with open eyes, open minds paired with the straight facts seems to make for a good path.

That should do it for today…
