I’ve been looking for work for quite some time. Paid work. This is not to be confused with needing things to do. I’ve got enough projects to keep me busy for the rest of my life, however long that might be. This isn’t going to be a long entry. I’ll revisit the struggles of work, projects, and the rest of my life at some point, but in my job search I just came across something. They had asked me to write a brief explanation of a concept making it as interesting and accessible as I could. I’m not sure if I accomplished that, but if it happens to wind up somewhere uncredited, I figured I’d post it here for posterity:
The fear of AI is understandable, but we need to realize that while it is indeed an enormously powerful tool with great potential, it is not a truly “thinking”, “conscious” tool. The chats create an illusion of such things, but think of a magician’s performing a magic trick or an actor flying in a movie – David Copperfield didn’t actually make the Statue of Liberty disappear, Christopher Reeve can’t actually fly. It appears that way, and convincingly so – and it’s the same with AI. This is not to say that we shouldn’t take safety measures, but we must approach this promising new technology with clear, objective, conscious minds – something we humans actually have and should take advantage of while we still can.
