I’m not the first one to draw the parallel. I’m late to Breaking Bad, the brilliant television series about a mild mannered chemistry teacher who discovers he has lung cancer and descends into the dark world of crystal meth. I’ve been meaning to get started on the show for years now, and now finally, thanks to Netflix, I’ve been immersed for the past week or so in one the greatest shows in television history.
While I’ve managed to continue to write elsewhere, I’ve had to put the old blog on the backburner for a few days and though I’d like to go into more detail and write a bit more critical praise of the series, I’m so close to wrapping season 3.
It’s no excuse for my blog negligence, but if you’re a fan of the show, you completely understand why I’ve spent every spare moment (and even those not so spare), catching up. When I’m not watching, I’m thinking about watching. Yes, yes, my behavior is not unlike that of an addict and from what I’ve seen on the internet, I’m not the first person to draw this parallel. This is due in equal parts to exemplary writing and acting. The world that Vince Gilligan created and the characters that Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and company have brought to life are no less than magic.
Or rather, chemistry.
