On mark, get set, go…

I’m reminded of a track meet that I went to as a child. Vaguely remembering the blocks that the runners lined up in. Somehow I made some sort of visual connection to the sizers in shoe stores at the time.  I don’t even know if they have those any more – at least I haven’t seen them in ages.

When I was growing up, “Michael’s” was the shoe store downtown. I remember when Reeboks arrived. It was pretty big deal.

“Michael’s” is closed now. Been closed for years along with the most of the stores downtown I remember from my childhood.  I don’t think my town even has a shoe store any more.

But they say …

It’s in West Virginia. My town. Friends and family tell me of the Marcellus Shale. The potential for economic growth that they may bring.

I’ve also heard alot about the possible environmental dangers.  But right now, I’m not interested in right and wrong.  I’ve heard compelling arguements on both sides of the debate …

I’m simply reminiscing right now.

But still …

I wonder if the potential growth will bring back the shoe stores?
